Mortal Love

Nick’s eyes were large and in that instant She He Lee said, “Normally I wouldn’t say anything, but centuries have passed. Call it a mid-life crisis if you will, but being I am who I am. I shall never age, never die, and unless I tell you these occurrences you’d never know I existed. You may not have met me, but I know for a fact I’ve interacted with your ancestors. Call me She He Lee. It is at this time I reveal myself as a woman but over history I’ve been a man and I was called He She Lee.

“The day I was born my parents never thought that one day I’d outlive my 160^th generations of grandchildren. It wasn’t until I was burned at the stake did I fully realize the true consequence of my life, this never ending need to leave my loved ones behind as I changed from a woman to a man. It was like breathing; with every breath my structure, my hair, and my voice changed. Looking back, being able to be a man was safer. Then again, as a woman it was nice to be in the background with no voice, not that men would’ve listened anyways. I pretended to be dead and they laid me in the ground and I waited until no human sound could be heard, and then I pushed the dirt away and breathed new life.”
